Neighborhood Notes, May 2012
Posted on May 16th, 2012
Looking (Consistently) Good: There are a large number of projects underway across our community.  Please remember that any improvement to the exterior of your home must gain prior approval from the Architectural Control Committee (ACC).  These include new roofs, playscapes, planters, fence modifications and staining, and painting, among other things.  Please review your deed restrictions for more information.  These documents are available on our website at lakeforestrr.com.   Also, please keep any previous ACC approvals with your important home documents.   Although we don’t encourage it, we know that some improvements are conducted without benefit of an ACC review.  However, homeowners should be aware that before homes are resold, they will undergo an ACC review for compliance violations.  This will likely add a requirement for the seller or buyer to obtain approval or to correct the violation before the sale of the home can close.

Lake Forest HOA Board of Directors Annual Meeting: Please mark your calendars!  Once a year, the Lake Forest HOA is required to conduct a general meeting with all residents.  We are required to have a minimum of 10 percent of our households represented.  This meeting is scheduled to occur on Tuesday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ridgeview Middle School cafeteria (note the location change--last year it was held at Blackland Prairie Elementary School).  We hope you will attend to learn about what we’ve been working on and about our plans for the coming year. We’ll review our financial data and provide committee updates.  In addition, we will be having elections for at least one board position.  If you’d like to become involved in our neighborhood leadership, please send an email to our property manager, Greig Dunnam, and prepare a short statement explaining your interest in serving as a board member.

Again, we encourage all residents to attend this annual meeting. If we are not able to conduct the meeting due to lack of a quorum, we will need to plan for a follow-up meeting, which will require additional notifications and funding—and we’d all like to avoid that!  You will also receive an official notice by mail.

Pay Attention to Parking: When our residential streets are crowded with parked cars, it compromises the safety of our young ones, who will soon be at play for the summer throughout the neighborhood. In addition, it makes for tough maneuvering for your neighbors, and doesn’t enhance property values.  Please adhere to Lake Forest covenants when parking your vehicles by securing them in your garages or front driveways.
As a reminder, if you own a commercial vehicle, it must be parked inside a garage at all times.

Protect Your Little Ones: Street safety works both ways. Even the most vigilant of drivers may not see a child entering the street on a bike, scooter, or skateboard; and kids don't always look for approaching cars on quiet streets. Please ensure that your child wears head protection when riding on neighborhood streets, even if it's only for a few minutes.

Lake Forest, Safe and Sound: As mentioned, summer is almost upon us. When the schools close down for summer and the populations in our parks and pool increase, our neighborhood has a greater need for vigilant volunteers to keep our community safe and informed.

The Lake Forest Watch group is seeking individuals interested in leadership roles, but during the coming busy season we welcome volunteers at all levels. Communities close to us have seen a rise in criminal incidents over the past few months, so it's critical that we encourage, educate, and inform Lake Forest residents about potential crimes and crime prevention. We're looking for the best...can we count on you?  For more information, contact any board member.

All We Need Is a Little Time: Can you spare 2 hours a month? There are many other opportunities for volunteers in our neighborhood. We’re looking for volunteers to help out on all committees, including the Finance, Pool, Social, Communication, Pond, Welcome, Architectural Control, Neighborhood Watch, and Landscaping committees.  For more information, please contact any board member.

Please note that volunteers are the lifeline of Lake Forest. It’s not always known that all social activities, the newsletter and website—even the HOA Board of Director positions—are manned by neighborhood volunteers who are dedicated to maintaining our fantastic neighborhood.  We all have day jobs…but we’re also dedicated to the place we call home.

Summer Travel Plans? If you’re on the road for a while, don’t forget to cancel your newspaper, put a hold on your mail, turn off your water, and have a neighbor keep an eye on your home and remove those pesky accumulating front door flyers.

President's Corner, May 2012
Posted on May 16th, 2012
Springtime is nearly over and summer is right around the corner!  As usual, the year is flying by.   Your HOA board has been busy working on landscaping projects and getting ready for the pool season.  You may have noticed that we have new landscaping at our neighborhood entrances.   When the Round Rock watering restrictions were removed, we were finally able to install new landscaping.  The entries will feature colorful but drought-tolerant plants and shrubs, as well as decorative rock accents.  We also restarted our pond fountains.  Regarding the pool, last year we had good reviews about the pool monitor stationed to check in visitors and keep the area orderly at this highly-used amenity, so we’re planning on bringing the monitors back in.

The April Neighborhood Garage Sale brought a number of folks to our neighborhood in search of bargains.   Our next community garage sale opportunity will be in October.  We hope that those families who participated experienced some nice profits.  Please remember that our community sales were established so that we could generate larger traffic numbers over a couple of events per year.   If you have any ideas on how to make our Neighborhood Garage Sales bigger and better, please drop the board members a note.

We also hope that everyone enjoyed our spring event on May 12.  From clowns to car racing, these new activities were great fun for kids and families.   Many thanks go to Frank and Catherine Campisano for their coordination of this event, and for leading your Social Committee!

Please take a moment to review the information in Neighborhood Notes, especially the entries about the Architectural Control Committee and our scheduled annual Lake Forest HOA Board of Directors meeting. Have a great summer here in Lake Forest, and please send any input you have for improving our neighborhood to our board and committee members through our website.

All the best,
Roger Arriaga

A Message from the Tucker Family
Posted on May 15th, 2012
As you may recall, our community was recently touched by tragedy when the Tucker family residence on Collingwood Drive was destroyed by fire. The following is a message from the Tuckers to all of our kind neighbors who turned out to assist them in their time of need.

Dearest community,

LeeVan and I wanted to thank each of you for the outpouring of love and support that you have shown to us. We are so very touched by the many acts of kindness from our beautiful neighborhood members...including notes, cards and gift cards from people we had never met before this tragedy struck our family. Your thoughtfulness will never be forgotten. Each day we are getting stronger and we remain focused on putting the pieces of our lives back together. Again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

LeeVan and Bette Tucker

Lake Forest Social Committee Update
Posted on Mar 31st, 2012
Hello to all our friends and neighbors!

The social committee has been actively planning three fun-filled events throughout the coming year. This year, we will not only celebrate the community, but also "Give Back". With all our events, we will sponsor various charitable organizations in an effort to show our support, and we hope you will find it in your hearts to support the causes. If you have any particular organizations or work with one, please contact our Social Committee Chair, Frank Campisano, at f_campisano@yahoo.com, with further details. We would like to help as many local organizations that we can, but we know we can't help them all at the same time. We will plan to rotate through as many causes as we can with your support.

We will also need many volunteers to help out, so please contact either Catherine or Frank at catherine@sweetlouisebakery.com or f_campisano@yahoo.com if you would be interested in pitching in. We'll kick off on May 12th with Fun In The Sun Day (more details on the Events page)--see you there!
